Ocean County Library to Host Go Figure!
traveling exhibit
Toms River
-- Storybook characters present enjoyable, meaningful, interactive
math experiences to children and adults in Go Figure! - a
national traveling exhibit that begins a six week visit at the Toms
River Branch of the Ocean County Library on March 8th, 2001. The
Opening Reception of Go Figure! will be held Sunday March
18th @ 2 pm.
The library is sponsoring scheduled
group visits for nursery school through grade two children, as well
as other events for the public in conjunction with the exhibit. Some
of these include Math Tale Mondays (storytimes followed by exhibit
play), a workshop sponsored by the NJ Mathematics Coalition to
inform parents about our new state standards in math, science, &
technology, and fu internet programs for elementary age students
with a 'hidden' focus on math.
Go Figure! transforms charming
children's book into a kid-sized world where children and adults can
have fun exploring math surrounded by familiar characters such as Arthur
the Aardvark and the Three Bears. Each of the five colorful
large-scale book elements in the exhibit includes a math related
activity such as measuring, weighing, or sorting, along with labels
to guide parents. Featured books are Arthur's Pet Business, The Doorbell
Rang, The Quilt, Frog and Toad Are Friends: A lost Button, and
Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Please feel free to contact the
Children's Department for more information or to schedule a group
visit. Call (732) 349-6200 ext. 842.
