A preventive health care program for Medicaid eligible persons under the age of 21. The purpose is early detection of medical and dental problems and follow-up care to any serious health problems. Medicaid eligible persons who are part of a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) receive these services as part of their membership.

The EBT system (known statewide as the Families First) took effect in Ocean County on March 1, 1999. This system replaced the issuance of checks and food coupons to eligible TANF/FS clients and made their cash and food benefits available to them through an electronic benefit account. To access their cash and food benefits, TANF/FS clients utilize their Families First cards. The EBT card may be used at merchant point-of-sale terminals and ATM’s.

Work First NJ and SSI recipients may be eligible to receive benefits to alleviate or prevent homelessness. This assistance may include temporary shelter, utility assistance, food, clothing, and is contingent upon other eligibility factors, such as housing affordability.

Provides comprehensive assistance to residents of Ocean County who are hungry, homeless or at risk of homelessness. Assistance can be accessed Monday through Friday 9-5 by phone, or call for walk in hours.

Services: Non-perishable food, used clothing and household items, furniture referrals, transitional housing, advocacy, information and referral. Limited funding available to assist with utilities, past due rent, security deposits and mortgages. Case managers do intake and assess every applicant. Information, referrals and advocacy with landlords and utility companies to prevent homelessness and/or shut offs.

Programs: Transitional Housing for working families. We can house six families at a time, for up to an eighteen month stay. During this time each family will be case managed so they can develop skills to work toward self sufficiency. They will pay a program fee according to their income. Families must have at least one working adult and be homeless at the time of application. Six sites are scattered throughout Ocean County.

Donated clothing and household goods available to clients and can match clients with donors of furniture and larger appliances.
