The family crisis intervention unit helps families resolve
crises they are facing. This program is part of the Family Division of Superior Court of
Ocean County. The purpose is to respond as quickly as possible to youth in crises. This
program deals with both youth and their families together to help solve their problems and
to provide or refer to needed services. By law, this program is required to exhaust other
services before they can refer to the court system. The Family Court has power over any
family members that may be contributing to the crisis situation.
Services: Services provided are 24 hour crisis intervention,
family assessment, short term individual and family counseling, referrals, and parent
communication skill training. Referrals to this agency are based on these conditions:
serious threat to the well being and safety of the juvenile, serious conflict between
parent and child regarding rules of conduct which are either ignored by the youth or the
misuse of parental authority by a parent or guardian, unauthorized absence by a juvenile
from the home for more than 24 hours, a pattern of unexcused absences from school by the
youth. Anyone can refer to this agency. Also, referrals come from schools, police,
parents, friends, relatives, etc. Referrals can be made by phone.
