STATUTES
The Information Services Department in the Toms
River branch and the Lakewood and Brick branches
have full sets of the New Jersey Statutes Annotated
(N.J.S.A.). Almost every branch of the Ocean
County Library system has a few selected titles
of N.J.S.A. The federal statutes are available in
Toms River and Lakewood in the United States
Code Annotated (U.S.C.A.). Federal laws including
legislative histories can be found in the U.S.
Code Congressional and Administrative News in
the Information Services Department.
COURT DECISIONS
New Jersey court cases are available in the Information
Services Department on CD ROM. These cases, known
as New Jersey Reports (N.J.) and New Jersey
Superior Court Reports (N.J. Super), go back
to 1885.
REGULATIONS
The New Jersey Administrative Code (N.J.A.C.)
includes all of the regulations promulgated by New
Jersey state agencies. It is available on CD-ROM
in the Information Services Department on a computer
designated for legal resources. This computer also
has the CD-ROM's for New Jersey court cases. The
New Jersey Register (N.J.R) published twice
monthly includes revisions to the N.J.A.C.
and proposed new regulations are available in paper.
Federal regulations are available in paper in a
set called the Code of Federal Regulations (C.F.R.).
FORM BOOKS
Legal forms such as complaints, answers, motions,
orders, affidavits, contracts, wills, subpoenas
and many other forms are available in books in the
Information Services Department. The New Jersey
Practice series and New Jersey Forms
Legal and Business contain the most requested
legal forms. Forms for pro-se divorce are available
in the Information Services Department and at many
other branches. These forms are included in New
Jersey Family Law Practice and Forms for
New Jersey Divorce Practice.
GENERAL
SOURCES
Sources available in the Information Services Department
include: encyclopedias, dictionaries, and directories.
Corpus Juris Secundum (C.J.S.) and Black’s
Law Dictionary contain legal definitions and
citations to court decisions. An attorney directory
called Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory is
available and provides biographical information
and ratings on lawyers in the United States and
other countries. The New Jersey Lawyers Diary
and Manual available in Toms River and most
other branches includes all lawyers admitted to
the New Jersey Bar and information about New Jersey
and federal courts.
PRO-SE BOOKS
These are books which explain the law in layman’s
terms and include a basic background of law in a
particular area with general forms and procedure.
Most of the library branches have pro-se books published
by companies such as Nolo Press with titles such
as Nolo’s Will Book, Patent it Yourself,
and the Power of Attorney Book.
TAX GUIDES
The Internal Revenue Code and regulations are available
in the Information Services Department. West’s
Internal Revenue Code and Federal Tax
Regulations are kept in book form for the current
year plus five years preceding. The RIA Tax Guide
analyzes and interprets tax laws and regulations.
