Red Hot Jazz Archive
The archive provides a history of Jazz before 1930 which includes information on bands and performers, as well as scholarly essays and audio clips.

Jazz Online
The Jazz Online web site introduces various styles of jazz, reviews of current releases, musician profiles, discussion groups, sound clips, and links.

Essentials of Music
Essentials provides an introduction to classical music that includes the six main periods of classical music history, including discussion of historical themes, composers and their works, and a glossary. This web site is produced by W.W. Norton & Company and Sony Essential Classics.

UK Music

Daily features, information on inductees, searchable archive.


Operabase provides detailed schedules for two years of 500 opera houses and festivals worldwide. This site is searchable by any combination of composer, title, date, location, singer/role, conductor or producer. The site also provides access to box office ordering information.

Operaglass includes libretti, discographies, composers, companies, performances, and synopsis.

Aria Database
A collection of over 1,000 operatic arias, translations of some operas, information on opera companies, and links to other opera sites.

Gilbert and Sullivan Archive
Information on the composers, their operettas, societies, companies and festivals, and links to other sites.

A big band site that provides information on big bands, current and historical and is searchable by band name, musician, and song title. The site also provides information by region.

Any Swing Goes
This swing music site includes: album reviews, articles, news, tour dates, merchandise and links.

A very inclusive site that includes articles, news, downloads, a music shop with sheet music and instruments, and links.


Musicals 101.com
An online encyclopedia of musicals in theatre, film and television that includes reviews, essays, chronologies, photos and biographical information.

Internet Broadway Database
The official database for Broadway Theater information.  Record of productions from the very beginning of New York theater.  Site is searchable.

A theater site with links to shows, composers, performers, lyrics, magazines, awards etc. that pertain to the musical theater. The links
are annotated and ranked by the author.

Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization
This site represents songwriters, performers and stage musicals and provides production requirements, musical numbers and discography information.( Also includes show synopses, and short biographies of composers and writers.)

A musical site that includes a song list, synopsis, cast list and links about various musicals plus a discussion forum.


Mudcat Café/Digital Traditional Folk Song Database
Mudcat includes lyrics of folk songs with a link to a MIDI sound file. The site is also searchable.

Lyrics World
Here is a collection of lyrics from top 40 rock and pop hits from 1939-1999. The site also provides a link to some of the artists.

Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music
A collection of American popular music 1780-1960 which concentrates on
the 19th and early 20th century. Sheet music searchable by keyword, composer, lyricist, arranger, etc..

Harry’s Blues Lyrics Online
Harry provides lyrics to Blues songs arranged by artist and title. The site also includes guitar tabs and chords and Blues history.

Net Hymnal
This site includes lyrics and MIDI files for Christian hymns and gospel songs. The site also provides information on composers, lyricists, and more.

History in Song
This historical site provides lyrics to songs about American history, many with social and historical commentary. Songs are listed alphabetically by title, writer/lyricist, subject, time period (1770’s-1960’s).

America Singing: Nineteenth-Century Song Sheets
This collection contains sheet music of the period, especially the Civil War years. Site can be searched by keyword.

Heptune Classical Jazz and Blues Lyrics Page
This Jazz and Blues lyrics page contains lyrics previous to 1948. Heptunes includes an artist index and is searchable.

Claims to be the world's largest sheet music retailer.  Music by instrument and genre.

Musicnotes is an online sheet music store offering more than 20,000 pieces of sheet music and guitar tabs.  The site also contains music books, CDs, and some free sheet music.
