Harry Potter: A Staged Radio Play Parody
& Themed Party

Attention: Scarheads! WizKids! GryffinDorks! Raconteur Radio's got a Potter mouth!
Don't miss this uniquely immersive interpretation of Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire with: theatrical lighting, costumes, Golden Age radio equipment, fog fx, and, of course, hundreds of sound effects.

Raconteur Radio stages theatrical presentations of vintage radio plays, classic works of literature,
and pop culture parodies for live audiences.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Toms River Library.

What is FanNation?
FanNation: the Geekstravaganza will be a multi-genre convention where fans can get together and wave their geek banners high. This is expected to be the largest library event of the fall with the Toms River Branch hosting two days of programming.

Who can attend FanNation?
Everyone is welcome! FanNation is FREE and open to the public, although we request that you register to attend. You do not have to be a resident of Ocean County. Programming will be geared towards adults and teens 12+. Registration will open in October.

What can I do at FanNation?
The main event begins Saturday at 10 am with programming throughout the building until 4 pm Saturday’s 20+ panels, workshops, and presentations will also feature gaming competitions and the day will culminate in a Cosplay Contest and Parade.

Special guests on Saturday include authors, artists, performers, and multiple cosplay groups. There will be panels and workshops covering such topics as comics, anime, medieval fantasy, cosplay creation, drawing comics, geek cooking, podcasting, roller derby, and much more.

You can also attend 15+ meet ups with other like-minded enthusiasts from our community’s favorite fandoms throughout the day on Saturday.

The convention will kick off on Friday with a Harry Potter inspired celebration.

What is a fandom anyway?

    Fan.dom, noun: The fans of a particular person, team, fictional series, etc., regarded collectively as a community or subculture.

A fandom is a group of people who like the same thing. People who like Doctor Who are a part of the Doctor Who fandom. People who like anime are a part of the anime fandom. Etc.

I’m not a geek! Can I still attend?
Of course!

Do I have to register?
Registration will open October 1st!

Registration for Saturday is recommended. If you forget, you are still welcome to register on site in the library’s lobby on Saturday.

If you want to attend the kick-off on Friday, registration for that event is required. We expect to reach capacity for the kick-off, so don’t wait!

**Note: The kick-off is a separate registration from the FanNation registration, so if you would like to attend both, you will need to register twice.**

Do I have to stay the whole time?
No, but we hope you do! You are welcome to come for just one program or stay for the whole day. If you are thinking of coming early, note that the library doesn’t open until 9 am and programming won’t start until 10 am. The library closes at 5 pm If you get hungry in the middle of the day, there are restaurants in the area; for lunch options click here.

Can I come in cosplay?
Yes!

When planning your cosplay, please be aware the library’s code of conduct will be enforced. Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn. Carrying weapons is not permitted. ANY prop weapon must be obviously fake, or it may be subject to confiscation for the length of the event.

How do I enter the cosplay contest?
Registration will occur on-site. More information, including rules, will be posted soon.

What is the Code of Conduct?
The library’s code of conduct will be enforced throughout FanNation. You can read the Code of Conduct here.


FanNation will be held at the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library.

**Note that on Saturday, the upper level of the municipal garage behind the library is FREE, not metered, courtesy of the Ocean County Library. But space in the garage is limited, so please have alternate parking plans.**

There are several restaurants within walking distance of the library for your food needs. There is also a Dunkin’ Donuts on the library’s property. Several restaurants are offering specials for FanNation attendees! Show your FanNation program to receive the discounts.

The Central Jersey Roller Vixens will be providing a basic overview of the sport, the mission of their organization, and how to join as a member of a team or how to just come be a spectator of roller derby!

Representatives from the local group, The Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA), will demonstrate historical fencing and weapon styles from different periods in history as well as answering questions about the SCA. The SCA is an organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe.

So you have a cosplay you’d like to do but don’t have much time, and few resources. Don’t panic! Cosplay can just take a little ingenuity and some improve. You just have to know where to look. Cosplaying “kawaii-hop” artist ThaGataNegrra will show you how to get a great look. She will also tell you how to get some Japanese street style with simple techniques.
