Featured Events at Manchester Library in March

MANCHESTER – The Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library will host several featured events throughout March.

“Learn About Access Video on Demand” 10 a.m. Monday, Mar. 4. Access Video on Demand is a database offered through the Ocean County Library to the public. It offers streaming videos on a wide range of topics, including the arts, humanities, science, mathematics, technology, and documentaries from notable producers such as HBO, History Channel, Nova, and Ken Burns. Learn how to use this free service via live demonstration from library staff.

“Hunters of the Sky” 2 p.m. Monday, Mar. 4. Staff from Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge will introduce you to a variety of raptors and tell you about the unique characteristics of each species in this program for adults. They will also discuss how they have adapted for survival.

“The Ides of March: a Caesar Retrospective” 2 p.m. Friday, Mar. 15. Explore Julius Caesar’s world on the Ides of March with retired classicist/high school Latin teacher, Colleen Boueil. Boueil will highlight interesting facts about Caesar’s life and legacy.

“Sons of Wexford Musical Performance” 2 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 16. The Central Jersey-based band Sons of Wexford specializes in classic Irish, Celtic, and American folk music. They have entertained with their unique blend of instrumental melodies and rich vocal harmonies since 2008. The band is sure to have all ages dancing and singing.

“The Book of Kells” 2 p.m. Monday, Mar. 18. Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day by learning about the centuries-old Book of Kells. The Book of Kells is currently located at Trinity College in Dublin and attracts over half a million visitors every year. Irish soda bread will be provided.

“Sing Along with Sandra!” 2 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 21. Sing well-known tunes led by library staff member Sandra Concha. Sandra is a trained vocalist in addition to her library credentials.

“How to Break Up With Your Clutter” 6:30 p.m. Monday, Mar. 25. Presenter Jamie Novak will teach you how to part with things you no longer use. Novak puts a humorous spin on common obstacles to getting organized, including keeping clothes and holding onto items “just in case” you may need them someday. Novak is the bestselling author of books on decluttering and organizing.

“Over Here, Molly Pitcher” 2 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 26. This interpretive storytelling program explores the legend of Mary Hays McCauley, also known as Molly Pitcher, the heroine of the 1778 Battle of the Monmouth Courthouse. The program also explores the lives of the “women of the army” who followed their husbands to war during the American Revolution. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Manchester Branch and the New Jersey Council for the Humanities Public Scholars Project.

“The Heart of Healing: Discovering the Secrets of Self-Care” 1 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 27. Learn how to remain healthy, strong, and resilient in a world with constant stress and change. Presenter Regina Rosenthal will show you simple time and cost-efficient self-care practices which can be used daily. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Manchester Branch.
