Most OCL branches have a Friends of the Library group that provides supplemental equipment, supplies and programs for their branch. They are actively engaged in promoting the library to the community and fundraising to support its activities.
Last week, all 21 library locations celebrated National Friends of the Library Week. This Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. till noon the headquarters branch of the library, 101 Washington St. Toms River, will host a forum for the Friends members.
The semi-annual forum will give the groups an opportunity to network, to share their success stories as well as any problems they have encountered, and offer instruction.
The library friends will also have an opportunity to "test drive" several eReader devices during the forum.
"Friends are vital to the success of the library," said Judy Macaluso, Supervising Librarian and liaison to the Friends groups. "We appreciate their dedication and all their hard work."
The Friends are always looking for community-minded people to assist them as they help the library. Check with your local branch for more information.
Last week two Friends groups hosted two book sales, a psychic fair, and an opportunity for people to digitalize their analog memories onto DVDs.
This week the Friends of the Toms River Library will host a bus trip to Kykuit, the Rockefeller Estate, and Phillipsburg Manor. They will host a 3-day book sale beginning Nov. 7th.
