Toms River Talks: A Living Oral History Event

Ocean County Library hosted a discussion about the history and people of early- and mid-20th century Toms River on June 1 in the Toms River branch. Local journalist and long-time Toms River resident Don Bennett moderated this event which was entitled, “Toms River Talks: A Living Oral History Event.”

The panelists included Barbara Carlino, Oscar Cradle, Manuel Hirshblond, Dave Johnson, Ferd Klebold, Rev. Larry Mattox and Mary Lou Sutton.

The panelists, who grew up, lived, worked and played in Toms River, discussed events they witnessed that helped shape Toms River into the town that it has become.

WWII Rememberance

In remembrance of WWII, local Toms River artist, Frank McGinley, who published Let Us Never Forget, explains the battles of WWII and shows his paintings in this pre-recorded online program.

75th Anniversary of the Hindenburg Crash: Podcast Discussion

Visit this page starting May 1, 2012 to listen online. Learn about the history of the Hindenburg airship crash and see photos of artifacts. The airship caught fire on May 6, 1937 and was destroyed as it was attempting to land at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station. Sponsored by the Ocean County Library with special guest speakers, Mr. Carl Jablonski, president of the Navy Lakehurst Historical Society and Douglas King, son of Harry King, an employee of the Zeppelin company who had the sole baggage concession.
