Explore Support Options for Mothers of People with Special Needs at the Toms River Library

TOMS RIVER – The Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library will host Mom2Mom’s “Grounded in the Present” workshop for mothers of people with special needs at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 16 in upstairs of the Bishop Building across the courtyard from the main branch.

Mom2Mom is a peer support helpline program for mothers of children and adults with disabilities.

This workshop will explore common sources of stress for special needs caregivers and provide practical tools for emotional regulation and mindfulness. Participants will learn strategies for engaging their senses and grounding themselves in the present moment to restore calm and clarity. Participants will also customize a scented sugar scrub to take home as a personal grounding tool.

Brett Keller and Danielle Hewitt of Rutgers Behavioral Health Care will present the program.

Brett Keller is a Supervising Mental Health Specialist with the National Center for Peer Support at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. He has spent more than a decade in emergency medical services and emergency communications.

Danielle Hewitt is a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor with over a decade of experience supporting individuals and families across clinical, crisis, and community settings. As a parent of a child with special needs, Danielle brings both professional experience and personal insight, with a passion for fostering resilience, empowerment, and growth.
