The Ocean County Library connects people, builds community and transforms lives every day through the power of information and stories. The Library is a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone. Our programs, services, and collection aim to meet the needs of our diverse community throughout the year but special holidays and observances provide us an opportunity to focus our efforts on celebrating, uplifting, and honoring specific communities.

History

Each year National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated across the United States from September 15th to October 15th.
This month honors the experiences and contributions of this community by encouraging others to learn about and celebrate their cultures and histories. Hispanic Heritage Month began as Hispanic Heritage Week by President Lyndon Johnson in 1968 and then was expanded in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan. The 30 day period covers many anniversaries of independence for Latin American countries. (adapted from hispanicheritagemonth.gov)
