Get a Lesson in Roman Dining at the Ocean County Library
August 29, 2025SURF CITY – You are invited to take a culinary adventure back in time and enter the world of ancient roman food and dining. The Long Beach Island Branch of the Ocean County Library will host “Have a Seat at Caesar’s Table: A Lesson in Roman Dining” at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sep. 24. Explore recent fascinating food finds from Pompeii and learn about Apicius, the famed Roman gourmand.
Colleen Boueil, a retired high school Latin teacher and classicist, will provide interesting insight into the ancient Roman table and dining protocols. A Jersey Shore native, Colleen Boueil holds two degrees in classical languages, resided in France for six years and spent 26 years teaching high school Latin.
