October 8, 2024

POINT PLEASANT BEACH – For decades, Fort Monmouth rarely raised a ripple of attention while scientists and military leaders there advanced technology by leaps and bounds. Join Melissa Ziobro, M.A., for revelations about this unique base at the Ocean County Library Point Pleasant Beach Branch, 7 PM Monday, November 4.

Professor Ziobro will elaborate on key points of her newly published chronicle, Fort Monmouth: The U.S. Army’s House of Magic, available at the Ocean County Library.

The author and educator will offer illuminating details of the history of the base nestled near Eatontown, Oceanport and Tinton Falls, from its wartime mobilization to new purposes directed by Netflix. You’ll learn the fort’s substantial role in the global technological revolution and how its diverse group of military and civilian heroes and scientists coexisted.

The curator of the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University and specialist professor of public history was the base’s last command historian, from 2004 through 2011. She will sign copies of her book that will be available for purchase during the program.
