Celebrate Bill Cranmer’s Remarkable Life at the Ocean County Library Point Pleasant Beach Branch

POINT PLEASANT BEACH – Few Jersey Shore notables match the stature of a true Renaissance man, Beach Haven’s Bill Cranmer (1917-2008). Learn his fascinating story during “Bill Cranmer: Gentleman, Craftsman, Scholar & Decoy Carver” at the Ocean County Library Point Pleasant Beach Branch, 7 PM Monday, September 16.

Arthur C. Liese, President and Managing Director of New York City’s Sporting Gallery and Book Shop, will describe the life and times of the Long Beach Island home builder, master carpenter, scholar and museum-quality decoy carver who was his close friend.

Cranmer, a Manahawkin native, gained his education in decoy traditions from family members and renowned carvers throughout the region, from whom he inherited the integrity, pride, and principles for which he is remembered today.

Cranmer also acquired carpentry skills that he employed during Army service in World War II and later as a builder of homes and sneakboxes. His decoys became prized for their artistry, innovative design and construction and meticulous attention to detail.

 Author and lecturer Arthur C. Liese is a restoration architect, appraiser, collector and expert on 20th Century American Sporting Art during the Golden Era of Sport (1927-1941).
