Celebrate Community! Kwanzaa Tales at the Ocean County Library Toms River Branch
October 22, 2024TOMS RIVER – Embrace the spirit of Kwanzaa in an irresistibly engaging family program. Join us for “Kwanzaa Tales with TAHIRA” at the Ocean County Library Toms River Branch, 6:30 PM Tuesday, November 19.
The celebration of family, community and culture created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966 takes place yearly, December 26 through January 1. TAHIRA’s stories and songs share Kwanzaa’s seven principles (Nguzo Saba): Unity, Self-Determination, Collective Work and Responsibility, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Creativity and Faith.
TAHIRA’s interactive, all-ages presentation underscores the value of these guideposts for living and their central role for community and culture in the African Diaspora.
TAHIRA, a 2023 Delaware Division of the Arts Master Fellow in Oral Literature, conveys positive messages of courage and hope through high-energy presentations of African oral tradition and original works. The storyteller, musician and songwriter was given the 2021 New Jersey Governor’s Award for Distinguished Service in Arts Education.
