The Ocean County Library connects people, builds community and transforms lives every day through the power of information and stories. The Library is a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone. Our programs, services, and collection aim to meet the needs of our diverse community throughout the year but special holidays and observances provide us an opportunity to focus our efforts on celebrating, uplifting, and honoring specific communities.

History

Disability Pride Month is celebrated each July across the United States. July was chosen to commemorate the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law in July of 1990. This month honors the contributions of the disability community throughout American history, specifically their commitment to advocating for accessibility, and celebrates their lives and accomplishments. It is a time to acknowledge and celebrate disabilities as well as an opportunity to learn more. (adapted from justice.gov and ed.gov)
