Learn about Local Environmental Concerns and What You Can Do at the Brick Branch of the Ocean County Library

July 10, 2025

BRICK – Do you ever wonder how you can get involved with your local environment? Come learn about ReClam the Bay’s efforts to work with communities to address flooding and land erosion concerns on the banks of the Barnegat Bay during the program “Living Shorelines: A More Natural Solution” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 5 at the Brick Branch of the Ocean County Library.

Living shorelines are built using cured shell, live shellfish, and native plants and act as a shorebreak to disperse wave energy, encourage sand and soil accretion instead of erosion, and provide habitat for young fish, turtles, and crabs. The ReClam the Bay speaker will provide examples of the shoreline building process to show and explain the benefits of more natural options for shore resiliency and restoration.

ReClam the Bay, formed in 2005, is a local, non-profit environmental organization that promotes environmental involvement and education in a constructive and helpful way. Their mission is to involve and educate the public about the estuary’s water quality and the importance of shellfish. They believe that by involving the public in the care, feeding, and life cycles of the shellfish they will better understand what an integral role shellfish have in our lives.

Registration is required for this free program. To register, visit tinyurl.com/OclReClam, call the branch at 732-477-4513, or visit the branch at 301 Chambers Bridge Road.
