Madeline Miller’s Modern Myth Making: Ocean County Library Virtual Author Talk

March 7, 2024

TOMS RIVER – Madeline Miller’s contemporary spins on Greek mythology have won legions of fans to her versions and prompted many to check out the originals. The New York Times best-selling author will discuss the magic of her myth methods in her Ocean County Library Virtual Author Talk, 7 PM Thursday, March 21.

The Song of Achilles and Circe, her bristling retakes of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, bring modern vernacular and refreshing empathy to the sweeping human dramas, larger-than-life gods and fearsome creatures that populate these towering adventure tales.

Both books and Miller’s short story Galatea can be found in print, audio and digital versions at the Ocean County Library. Her books have been translated into 32 languages.

Madeline grew up in New York City and Philadelphia, earned a Master’s degree in Classics at Brown University and began adapting classical content to modern form as a Dramaturgy student in the Yale School of Drama. She taught Latin, Greek and Shakespeare to high schoolers for 15 years.
