‘Meet’ A Revolutionary Poet at the Ocean County Library

March 4, 2025

TOMS RIVER – First famous as the wife of a Declaration of Independence signee, Annis Boudinot Stockton later gained renown as a prolific, patriotic poet. Alisa Dupuy portrays this remarkable individual in an Ocean County Library Women’s History Month presentation, “The Ladies of History: Annis Boudinot Stockton,” Thursday, March 20 in two locations:

  • Mayo Park Center - 2 PM, 501 Beacon Avenue, Beachwood, (732) 286-6000
  • OCL Little Egg Harbor Branch - 6 PM, 290 Mathistown Road, (609) 294-1197

Annis’s prominent family in Princeton gave her social stature. Historians trace her first poem to 1753, shortly before she wed attorney Richard Stockton, namesake of Stockton University. Richard’s decision to oppose the British led to his capture, which inspired Annis to produce passionate, pro-independence poetry and to raise funds for the Continental Army.

Since founding The Ladies of History in 2006, Alisa Dupuy has brought the past to life through historically accurate and highly engaging interpretations of more than 30 women, events, holidays and eras from the early 14th to the late 20th centuries.

Performing for libraries, historical societies, book and social clubs, schools, fundraisers and more, Alisa has been profiled on NPR and in Broadway World New Jersey, the Times News of Lehighton PA and the Yardley Voice.
