Ocean County Library & Ocean County College to Present Developmental Disability Support Series
May 6, 2025TOMS RIVER – Teens and adults with developmental or intellectual challenges can find guidance for their futures in free programs sponsored by the Ocean County Library and Ocean County College.
“Navigating Life with Intellectual and Developmental Disability” will take place in OCL branches and the OCC Toms River campus from June 5 through November 13. The programs will focus on issues of importance to individuals affected by Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) on the threshold of adulthood and their caregivers.
- An Overview of SSI & Medicaid for Adults with IDD – 6:30 PM Thursday, June 5, Hometown Dairy Room, OCL Toms River Branch, 101 Washington Street, (732) 349-6200. The Arc of New Jersey will introduce the basics of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid.
- Transitioning to the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities – 6:30 PM Tuesday, September 30, OCL Lacey Branch, 10 East Lacey Road, Forked River, (609) 693-8566. Learn the next steps when your disabled child reaches maximum age in the New Jersey Children’s System of Care (PerformCare).
- Employment: An Overview of NJDDD – 10 AM Tuesday, October 7, Ocean County College, 1 College Drive, Toms River, (732) 255-0400. See how the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities (NJDDD) helps to prepare intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals for the workforce. The program, additionally sponsored by the Ocean County Department of Human Services and Waters & Sims Supported Employment Services. will occur during OCC’s Disability Job & Employment Resource Fair.
- Employment: An Overview of Services Provided by NJDVRS – 11 AM Tuesday, October 7, Ocean County College, 1 College Drive, Toms River, (732) 255-0400. Gain knowledge of employment assistance services for disabled individuals through the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services. The program, additionally sponsored by the Ocean County Department of Human Services and Waters & Sims Supported Employment Services. will occur during OCC’s Disability Job & Employment Resource Fair.
- Let’s Talk Friendship & Dating! – 6:30 PM Tuesday, October 21, OCL Toms River Branch, 101 Washington Street, (732) 349-6200. Communication and boundary setting are vital for healthy relationships. See how friendship and dating can grow from social interaction.
- Ocean County Library’s 8th Annual Autism Resources Fair: Spotlight on Teen & Adult Services – 10 AM until 2 PM Saturday, November 8, OCL Lacey Branch, 10 East Lacey Road, Forked River, (609) 693-8566. Learn about programs designed to support your loved one as they navigate adulthood. Meet members of support coordination agencies, residential services, day programs, employment assistance programs and other organizations.
- Community College for Students with Disabilities – 6:30 PM Thursday, November 13, OCL Toms River Branch, 101 Washington Street, (732) 349-6200. A representative of Ocean County College’s Office of Disability Services will discuss qualifications and accommodations as you transition from high school to OCC.
