Prepare for Special Needs Adulthood at the Ocean County Library Lacey Branch
August 25, 2025LACEY TOWNSHIP – The support that the State of New Jersey provides for disabled children continues into adulthood, through the agency tailored for adults with special needs. Discover the process of “Transitioning to the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities” at the Ocean County Library Lacey Branch, 6:30 PM Tuesday, September 30.
Monique Lewis Hawkins, Executive Director of Trenton-based Equal Opportunity Support Services, will offer a comprehensive overview of the steps to take when your disabled child reaches maximum age within the New Jersey Children’s System of Care (PerformCare).
The presentation will describe how to achieve as seamless a transition as possible from one state agency to another to ensure that your loved one continues to receive the services that they need. Topics to be covered include:
- How to determine whether a loved one is eligible for services
- The application process, including the differences between long and short applications
- Services that NJDDD offers
- What ensues once an individual is notified of eligibility for services
This workshop is part of a series for teens and adults sponsored by OCL and Ocean County College entitled “Navigating Life with Intellectual and Developmental Disability.” The programs touch on practical, educational and social aspects of a fulfilling life as a teen or adult with intellectual or developmental challenges.
