Sensory & Autism-Friendly Music Show Coming to Ocean County Library Brick Branch

August 5, 2024

BRICK TOWNSHIP – Show your love of literature during an all-ages, sensory and autism friendly performance by Turtle Dance Music. “Why Reading Rocks! The Music, Bubble and Comedy Show” will be offered at the Ocean County Library Brick Branch, 11 AM Wednesday, August 28.

The high-energy program encourages reading and a love of books by engaging kids and adults with songs, laughter, bubbles and music technology. It’s inclusive for everyone, including those on the autism spectrum. Each song is designed to help kids learn, dance, and sing while learning the importance of reading for fun and for their futures.

Matt Mazur co-founded Turtle Dance Music in 2012 to provide inclusive and interactive entertainment for children, teens and adults of all ability levels on the autism spectrum. He was a popular addition to April’s 2024 Autism Resources Fair in the OCL Toms River Branch.

His children’s book Scrak’s Big Adventure is co-authored and illustrated by his brother-in-law and autism advocate Tim Shaw. Proceeds from sales of the book are devoted to scholarship funds to enable adults with autism to attend local colleges.

Matt holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree in Drama from New York University and a Master’s degree in Theater Studies and Theater for Young Audiences from Montclair University. Inspired by children on the spectrum, Matt earned a degree in Developmental Models of Autism Intervention and Early Childhood Development.

“Learning about autism changed the way that I saw the world,” Matt said, “and it completely changed the methods and techniques that I used by working with children and teens with developmental disabilities.”
