Teen Book & Media Reviews

The Ocean County Library has an awesome collection of YA books, movies and music to choose from!

We’re asking our teen volunteers to help spread the word about the YA books they are reading as well as the movie and music content they are consuming!

Interested?? Here’s what you’ll need to do:

1. You will need to submit a Teen Volunteer Application to your local branch before you can complete book & media reviews. We recommend you speak to your local teen librarian for ideas on what books to read.
2. Review requirements: Please review each category below.
   1. YA Book Review Requirements
      1. The title must be owned by the Ocean County Library
      2. The title must have been published in the last 5 years.
   2. Movie Review Requirements
      1. The title must be owned by the Ocean County Library
      2. The title must be rated PG-13 or under (i.e. G or PG)
   3. Video Game Review Requirements
      1. The title must be owned by the Ocean County Library
      2. The title must be rated T (Teens) or under (i.e. E or E10+)
   4. Album Review Requirements
      1. The title must be owned by the Ocean County Library
      2. The title cannot be explicit
3. After you’ve read your book, watch your movie, play your video game, or listen to your music/album, tell us what you think
   • Fill out the OCL Teen Book & Media Review Form. Remember you are writing a review for your fellow teens! Give them enough information to help make a decision about choosing the book or media, but NO SPOILERS!!

Important Things to Remember:

• YA Book Reviews:
  • We want you to enjoy reading and help us promote our awesome YA Collection!
  • The book you choose must be a YA book published no more than 5 years ago.
  • The books you review must not be on your school curriculum.
  • You will get 1 hour of community service time for each approved review.
  • You can submit up to 2 book reviews per month, not to exceed 24 reviews per calendar year for a total of 24 qualifying volunteer hours. Please do not submit all reviews at one time or more than one per day.
• YA Media Reviews:
  • We want you to enjoy exploring media through the awesome physical and digital OCL catalog.
  • You will get 1 hour of community service time for each approved review.
  • You can submit up to 2 media reviews per month, not to exceed 24 reviews per calendar year for a total of 24 qualifying volunteer hours. Please do not submit all reviews at one time or more than one per day.
